Weapons of Mass Deception

The BBC reports today that Stephen Byers, Patricia Hewitt and Geoff Hoon have been suspended from the Labour Party, following an undercover operation by the Times and Channel 4 showing them promising to influence UK governmental policy for between 3000 and 5000 pounds per day.

We, of course, say good riddance to these three corrupt and despicable individuals. They will be remembered as key players in one of the most corrupt and blood thirsty Governments (The Blair Years)the UK has ever known.

What is of interest to us here though is this charming archive from 2009, showing Byers working with the British Council to promote good governance and democratic accountability abroad. Of course, let’s not forget that Hewitt (personal friend of the Kinnock’s) was also vice chair of the British Council.

The hypocrisy and deceit is overwhelming.

  1. Byers was in Kiev too, lecturing the Ukrainians on democracy.
Then again, this is the man who, as Minister for School Standards, once claimed on live TV that eight times seven was fifty-four.

    Thanks Michael,
The archive referred to in the article actually pertained to the Ukraine but the John Smith Memorial Trust actually spreads across Eastern Europe, on the fault lines between NATO and the former Soviet Union (it has offices in Russia too!!).

When we refer to “hypocisy” we refer to the corruption of the British Covernment preaching accountability when there is none shown by itself. When we refer to “deceit”, we refer to the “cloak of democracy” which disguises the NATO warmongering missions of the John Smith Memorial trust (and the British Council) in this politically sensitive part of the globe.
Its hilarious to us that well-known Russiaphobe, Lord Patten, is invited by the Trust in Kiev to extol the virtues of “democratic progress” in China.:

These people are not only greedy and corrupt, they are downright dangerous.

Couldn’t resist this poem by Carol Ann Duffy, her first as poet laureate and a wonderful “rant” on the MPs expenses scandal:

How it makes of your face a stone

that aches to weep, of your heart a fist,

clenched or thumping, sweating blood, of your tongue

an iron latch with no door. How it makes of your right hand

a gauntlet, a glove-puppet of the left, of your laugh

a dry leaf blowing in the wind, of your desert island discs

hiss hiss hiss, makes of the words on your lips dice

that can throw no six. How it takes the breath

away, the piss, makes of your kiss a dropped pound coin,

makes of your promises latin, gibberish, feedback, static,

of your hair a wig, of your gait a plankwalk. How it says this –

politics – to your education education education; shouts this –

Politics! – to your health and wealth; how it roars, to your

conscience moral compass truth, POLITICS POLITICS POLITICS.
